Founder’s Bio

Marilyn Henschel is the president of Henschel Business Services Inc. Her first experience with entrepreneurship was growing up on a farm in central Alberta working side by side with her dad, mom and brother. This experience instilled the beliefs of work ethic and teamwork while still having fun. Marilyn’s next business venture (1989 to 1998)was Managing Partner of a Vancouver Island art business that specialized in the promotion, retail and wholesale of First Nations’ art. This “small” business started with an office in a garage and developed into a number of galleries and participated in various art shows from the west coast to Winnipeg, to Los Angeles to New York. Through this experience, she gained practical hands-on experience in all areas of bookkeeping, finance, marketing, staffing and organization.

In 1998 Marilyn moved to Ottawa ready for new challenges. She began working for a food broker and marketing company as office manager. Later that year, she took on her first bookkeeping client and slowly began reducing her hours as office manager to take on more bookkeeping clients. To supplement her practical experience, she enrolled in Ottawa’s Algonquin College Bookkeeping Certificate program. This program was completed with Honours in December of 2004.

After working on her own out of her basement it didn’t take Marilyn long to realize that there was a huge demand for a professional bookkeeping service. With her passion for business, sincere desire to help people and the thrill of growing businesses and organizations, she has taken the business from a one person operation to a corporation with a team of over sixteen people. She enjoys surrounding herself with people that improve her skills and knowledge, make her laugh and have the same vision and passion for helping others to succeed.
